  • 🇷🇺 [27 May 2026] Russia’s Supreme Court launches comprehensive review of AI legal cases: The Chairman of the Supreme Court of the Russian Federation, Igor Krasnov, has ordered a comprehensive nationwide analysis of court cases involving AI technologies to develop a unified approach to law enforcement amid rapid digital advancements.

  • 🇪🇸 [26 May 2026] Spain’s Council of Ministers approves draft law on AI governance: The Council of Ministers has approved the draft Organic Law for the governance of AI, which adapts European regulations to the national framework, as explained by the Minister for Digital Transformation and Civil Service, Óscar López.

  • 🇬🇧 [25 May 2026] UK and Australia sign pact on AI security risks: The UK and Australia have established a partnership to address AI security risks, formalized through a Memorandum of Understanding between the UK AI Security Institute and the Australian AI Safety Institute.

  • 🇺🇸 [29 May 2026] NIST renames and expands AI consortium and invites new members: The National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST) has renamed the former AI Safety Institute Consortium to the NIST AI Consortium, reflecting an expanded mission beyond safety to encompass AI innovation and adoption.

  • 🇺🇸 [27 May 2026] US senator proposes tax on AI companies to benefit all Americans: In her op-ed published in Time magazine, US senator Elizabeth Warren (D-Mass.) has called for the taxation of AI to address the growing economic divide exacerbated by the technology, which threatens to concentrate wealth among the ultra-rich while displacing workers.

  • 🇺🇸 [27 May 2026] Attorneys general oppose KIDS Act for lacking duty of care on tech companies: Attorneys general of 39 US states and territories have written a letter of opposition to congressional leaders in Washington D.C, arguing that the Kids Internet and Digital Safety (KIDS) Act fails to impose an enforceable “duty of care” on tech companies to prevent harm to minors.

  • 🇨🇳 [29 May 2026] China proposes reforms on AI, UN and global governance at UN meeting: It is reported that China has proposed reforms on global governance, including United Nations reform, AI regulation, and international development, as articulated by Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi during a meeting of the Group of Friends on Global Governance at the UN headquarters in New York.

  • 🇰🇷 [28 May 2026] South Korea public and private sectors join forces to respond to AI cyber threats and establish AI security sovereignty: The Ministry of Science and ICT has announced the “Private Information Protection Promotion Plan for Responding to AI-Based Cyber Threats” during the 9th Science and Technology Ministerial Meeting, emphasizing a collaborative approach between the government and private sectors to address AI cyber threats and establish AI security sovereignty.

  • 🇭🇰 [28 May 2026] Hong Kong flags data hurdles for Greater Bay Area legal AI model: The Hong Kong Department of Justice has identified significant challenges in developing an AI foundational large model for the legal sector within the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area (GBA), primarily due to differing data governance laws and standards across the three jurisdictions, as highlighted by Deputy Secretary for Justice Dr. Cheung Kwok-kwan during a Legislative Council session.

  • 🇨🇳 [27 May 2026] China’s Supreme People’s Court announces AI judicial rule development for 2026–2030: The State Council Information Office held a press briefing on advancing comprehensive law-based governance of China in Beijing, at which the Supreme People’s Court announced plans to refine judicial rules governing AI and data property rights over the 15th Five-Year Plan period (2026–2030).

  • 🇮🇳 [27 May 2026] AI deepfakes expose legal gaps in India's celebrity rights protection: It is reported that Indian celebrities, including cricket stars and Bollywood actors, have sought legal protection for their name, image, voice, and likeness due to a surge in AI-generated deepfakes and fake endorsements, highlighting gaps in Indian law regarding personality rights.

  • 🇮🇩 [26 May 2026] KPPU announces Digital Market Law, covering use of algorithms, AI and data control by digital platforms: The Business Competition Supervisory Commission (known in Indonesia as Komisi Pengawas Persaingan Usaha or KPPU) has advocated for the strengthening of regulations and oversight in the e-commerce sector through the establishment of a Digital Market Law in response to the increasing complexity of competition in the digital ecosystem, including the use of algorithms, AI (AI), and data control by digital platforms.

Oceania

  • 🇦🇺 [29 May 2026] Australian AI Safety Institute appoints inaugural general manager: It is reported that the Australian government has appointed Kate Conroy as the inaugural general manager of the Australian AI Safety Institute, which operates within the Department of Industry, Science and Resources, rather than as an independent regulator.

  • 🇦🇺 [27 May 2026] ASD releases guidance on integrating AI into cyber security operations: The Australian Signals Directorate has issued guidance for integrating AI into cybersecurity operations, establishing a framework that aligns AI integration across six functions: governing, identifying, protecting, detecting, responding, and recovering, while recognizing the increasing use of AI by malicious actors to enhance attack capabilities.

  • 🇦🇺 [25 May 2026] Australia and UK partner to strengthen AI safety and security: Australia and the UK have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to enhance cooperation on the responsible development, deployment, governance, and use of safe and trustworthy AI.

  • 🇬🇭 [29 May 2026] Ghana’s Communication Minister calls for urgent AI policy action: It is reported that Ghana’s Minister for Communication, Digital Technology and Innovations, Samuel Nartey George, has called for urgent and strategic policy measures to strengthen Ghana’s and Africa’s position within the global AI ecosystem during the Ishmael Yamson & Associates Business Roundtable in Accra.
