🇿🇦 🌐 [7 April 2025] South Africa Digital Tech Minister urges G20 countries to regulate AI: Speaking at the G20 Digital Economy Working Group and AI Task Force, South African Communications and Digital Technologies Minister Solly Malatsi has called on Group of 20 (G20) countries to develop a framework of rules that member states can use to regulate AI, particularly a framework that prioritises the development of AI for low-resource languages and to collaborate in sharing data and tools to close the gap in linguistic diversity in digital technologies. Among other things, Minister Malatsi emphasized that South Africa seeks to advance the Global South’s agenda by addressing connectivity gaps, supporting MSMEs, and ensuring AI respects cultural diversity while mitigating biases.
