  • 🇨🇦🇯🇵 [6 March 2026] Canada and Japan sign strategic pact on defence, energy and AI: The Prime Ministers of Canada and Japan have signed a Comprehensive Strategic Partnership to enhance cooperation in defense, energy, trade, and technology. This agreement includes establishing dialogues on economic security and cyber policy, expanding military collaboration through joint exercises, and strengthening supply chains for critical minerals and energy resources. The partnership aims to deepen bilateral relations and promote a free and open Indo-Pacific region.

  • 🇨🇦🇦🇺 [6 March 2026] Canadian and Australian music rights organizations release statement on AI and copyright: The Society of Composers, Authors and Music Publishers of Canada (SOCAN) and the Australasian Performing Right Association (APRA AMCOS) have jointly issued a statement emphasizing the need for a licensing framework for AI development that respects the rights of music creators. They oppose any legal exceptions to copyright for AI training, highlighting that such exceptions could disproportionately benefit large technology platforms at the expense of artists. Both organizations advocate for collaboration between middle-power nations like Canada and Australia to establish frameworks ensuring AI development supports human creativity and provides fair compensation to creators.
