🇪🇺 [19 June 2026] European Commission selects EUROPA consortium to build open-source frontier AI model: The European Commission has selected the EUROPA consortium, led by Italian AI company Domyn, as the winner of the Frontier AI Grand Challenge to develop an open-source frontier large language model covering all 24 official languages of the European Union.

🇺🇸 [18 June 2026] Senate Judiciary Committee advances NO FAKES Act to protect against digital replicas: It is reported that the US Senate Judiciary Committee has advanced the Nurture Originals, Foster Art, and Keep Entertainment Safe (NO FAKES) Act, a bipartisan bill introduced by Senators Chris Coons (D-DE), Marsha Blackburn (R-TN), Amy Klobuchar (D-MN), and Thom Tillis (R-NC). The legislation aims to protect individuals’ voice and visual likenesses from unauthorized digital replicas, including those generated by AI. It establishes a federal right of publicity, holding individuals or companies liable for producing, hosting, or sharing digital replicas without consent. The bill includes provisions for licensing digital replicas, liability, safe harbors, and statutory exceptions, while ensuring alignment with First Amendment rights. The NO FAKES Act has garnered support from industry leaders and nearly 400 artists, emphasizing the need to safeguard against the misuse of AI technology in creating deepfakes.
