  • 🇪🇺🇯🇵 [5 May 2026] EU and Japan accelerate cooperation on AI, data, quantum and chips: The EU and Japan have accelerated cooperation on AI, data, quantum technologies, and semiconductors during the fourth meeting of the EU-Japan Digital Partnership Council in Brussels, where they agreed to enhance regulatory, research, and industry collaboration to improve cross-border data flows, digital identities, and digital infrastructure.

  • 🇺🇸 [6 May 2026] Google DeepMind, Microsoft, and xAI sign agreements with US CAISI on AI security testing: The Center for AI Standards and Innovation (CAISI) at the Department of Commerce’s National Institute of Standards and Technology has announced new agreements with Google DeepMind, Microsoft, and xAI to conduct pre-deployment evaluations and targeted research on frontier AI capabilities to enhance AI security.

  • 🇨🇦 [4 May 2026] Delayed federal AI strategy coming soon, says AI minister: The federal government has announced that its new national AI strategy, which will address the technology’s impact on the labor market, is “coming soon”, according to AI Minister Evan Solomon. Initially promised by the end of 2025, the strategy’s release has been delayed as Minister Solomon continues consultations with various stakeholders, including labor leaders and environmentalists, to adapt to the rapidly evolving AI landscape.
